Why Oh Why Must I Do Book Research?

Holy Moley. The reactions I get to well-meant advice!

You mean I have to do research before starting to write my book?

Well, you don't have to. I mean, you don't have to pass your driving test to drive a car. You don't have to but it's highly recommended.

Look at it this way. How long does it take to write a book, typically? Six months to two years. Perhaps longer. That's a long time and a lot of effort.

Why Do Book Research?

Do you want all that effort to be wasted? What if you're creating a book that no-one wants? What if your book cover is not appropriate? What if your book title is not appealing and doesn't get found?

The whole point of researching your book is to see if there's a market, and that your book is appealing to that market.

But What Is Book Research?

It's not researching your content. If you've worked in a field for years, you know your content inside out. And you know what beginners in the field need to know.

No, research is not about your content.

It's about four things:

  1. Market Research
  2. Book Category Research
  3. Book Title Research
  4. Book Cover Research

OK, if that's what I need to research, where do I start? Let's start with how long it will take.

How Long Does Book Research Take?

How long does it take to research the four areas you need for your book to be successful? About an hour if you're organised and you do it manually. Or about twenty minutes if you use the right tools. So it's not time consuming. But how do you do it?

Make It Easy On Yourself

If you use the right tools, you make the job easy. Here's a quick video demonstration on exactly how I recommend you carry out research on your book.

What Are The Next Steps?

Well, now you need to create your book! And I can help you with this, too. Many first time authors begin with a paperback book. The trouble is that many get bogged down and then give up.

I recommend first time authors start with a Kindle book. Then you can always expand that to a paperback later. But in the meantime, your Kindle book is on sale and attracting reviews.

So write a Kindle book. this can be only 8-10,000 words instead of the typical 50,000 words. So you can write it in 20% of the time - or less!

Let Me Help You

I can get you to create their Kindle book using only one hour of your time. Yes, it's true. Then I'll format your book and submit it to Amazon's Kindle.

Give Me An Hour Of Your Time ...
